Walking in the street with a hat and jacket.
One of the benefits of a “Yiddishe Levush”, is that it serves as a constant reminder that we represent Yiddishkeit.
An example the Rebbe once gave; suppose one is walking in a gas-station and wishes to glance at some non-tznius pictures in the magazine stand. His personal Yetzer Hora is strong and his resolve for being Mekayem “Veloi Sosuru” is breaking.
But suddenly he realises; This is not about me! I am so obviously Jewish, the people here who see be may say “Look a him: the Jewish people look at those things”.
Our ‘Levush’ – our hat and jacket – ensure that we look so obviously Jewish, that we carry the impression of Yiddishkeit around with us, assisting us to act as Yidden, with Kedusha and Mentchlichkeit.
There are other reasons for the Levush for example: two Makifin, how our clothing affects the way we act, and more. But for for the sake of brevity let’s suffice with this one, ועוד חזון למועד בעז״ה.
